The artist

Gemma Ince

Gemma is a freelance multidisciplinary graphic artist. With 20 years in the industry, she now can mostly be found creating a brand identity or the visuals to help launch cultural events. She has side projects too. She uses pencil, watercolour, collage, print, photography then digital software to take textures and imagery from analogue through to digital outcomes. It can be tight and careful observation of small detail, or expressive marks; minimal or maximal; playful and expressive with typography and words.

Gemma also works as a part-time tutor of Graphic Communication at Birmingham City University. She has lived in and loved Walsall for 14 years. She has designed brand identities and communications for many small businesses and community arts projects in the region – including Creative Factory, Caldmore Community Garden, The Cultures of Walsall Festivals, Creative Walsall, The Curio Shop, 34a Antiques, Vito’s Hair & Beauty, Regional Voice Theatre Company. She is part of 'Made By…' a collective of creatives based in Walsall who have collaborated to run pop up shops and sales to regenerate Walsall and provide an output for the creatives living and working there.

The location

The 'newly-refurbished' Black Country Arms based in High Street, Walsall is one of the town's most ancient hostelries dating back to as early as 1627. Formerly The Green Dragon, this Grade II listed pub is now part of the ever-expanding Black Country Ales chain, and Walsall's foremost real ale pub with no fewer than 20 hand-pulls featuring ever-changing cask ales and ciders from across the UK.
